Zynga wanted PopCap

Offered $1 billion, but were turned down.

Yesterday brought us the news that EA had picked up PopCap Games, makers of casual phenomenons such as Bejeweled, {Peggle} and {Plants vs. Zombies}. Forbes now reports that {Farmville} creators Zynga were willing to part with $1 billion in cash for PopCap. It seems PopCap opted for a slightly less lucrative cash offer from EA ($750 million) that in turn also included a potential earn-out of an additional $500 million after two years.

A third potential buyer was Chinese Tencent, but they pulled out of the EA and Zynga led bidding war.
