Workshop feature revealed for Overwatch
This lets you edit game scripts to create custom games, and fan creations are already emerging after it launched on the test servers.
Overwatch's game director Jeff Kaplan has appeared in another developer diary to give Overwatch fans a bit of a surprise, as this video revealed the Workshop, a game mode that lets you flex your creative muscles within Overwatch.
Kaplan describes Workshop as a "scripting mode that will allow you to make custom game modes within the custom game browser, but also allow you to do really cool things like, for example, you can even prototype your own Overwatch hero using this system."
This system is now live on the test servers for the game on PC, but Kaplan warns that this is aimed more at people with basic scripting and programming experience, although Blizzard's programmers have tried to make it feel as accessible as possible. This includes forums to ask questions on how to use it, as well as Blizzard putting examples on the custom game browser.
Kaplan also adds in the video that he hopes people can examine the script sets that Blizzard use and realise that they can also become a game developer too.
People like Daniel Fenner have taken to Twitter to share some creations already, including Wrecking Ball racing, and things created in the PTR servers can be shared using a code on both PC and console.
Do you have some ideas for Workshop?
