Ubisoft's Commit Assistant to squash bugs before they appear
New tech looks to free up developers' time and lower production costs.
We don't normally delve into the world of development tools, but the recently revealed Commit Assistant from Ubisoft is certainly interesting, even if it sounds so clever that it could one day spawn Skynet.
Simply put, using algorithms and advanced machine learning techniques, Commit Assistant can help developers predict and eradicate bugs before they happen, effectively freeing up a huge amount of time and in the process lowering development costs.
Ubisoft La Forge, the Montreal-based tech team, unveiled the new feature during the publisher's recent Developer Conference. There the team detailed how it would recognise bugs and even offer developers potential solutions and fixes. If they're correct, despite the odd false alarm (which the program will eventually get better at recognising, becoming more efficient as it learns more), the new system could save up to 20% of development time.
Given the huge budgets triple-A games command these days, anything that can streamline the process will no doubt help bring production costs down. Check out the trailer below for more.
