The new character system in Fallout 4 explained

Bethesda details its features in new trailer.

One of the most important aspects that has always characterised the Fallout series is its character system, allowing players to create their own ideal character, shaping the game experience accordingly. That's why {Fallout 4} aims to further enhance the character system, starting from the new S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, that allows the players to build their characters in a different way and according to their own preferences.

In the very first moment in {Fallout 4} the players, in fact, will have to assign a start value to the 7 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Constitution, Intelligence, Agility and Luck), for a total of 28 points. Initially it will be difficult to max out attributes (at least if you want any sort of balance to your character), but the player can of course assign 10 to one or two and ignore others completely. While you first assign your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points before the bombs fall, you can change them once you exit the vault and after playing for a while.

The level increase is based on experience points (XP) and not on the progression of the skills as in Skyrim. The rate of increase of the level is very similar to Skyrim and faster than {Fallout 3}. This means that, especially in the beginning, players will have more chances to level and select a talents. Moreover, unlike {Fallout 3}, where in the maximum level was initially 20, {Fallout 4} doesn't have any limit, the aim here is to continuously stimulate the player to improve himself/herself.

Is it too much complex for you? Don't worry, you can take a look to the trailer Bethesda released today, in which they explain in detail all the innovations and features of the character system.

{Fallout 4} will be available from November 10 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
