The Double Fine Effect
Kickstarter funds grow in popularity.
According to figures recently released by Kickstarter, Tim Schafer's {Double Fine Adventure} has had a massive impact on the crowd-funding scene.
A Kickstarter blog drew attention to the massive increase in first-time pledgers. According to their stats, 22% of Double Fine's first time backers went on to fund another project.
Before the recent surge in popularity, only one video game had taken over $100,000 from the crowd-funding source. Since {Double Fine Adventure} hit the site, nine different games have raised at least that figure.
Before Double Fine, the video games category attracted an average of 629 pledgers a week. Since Tim Schafer's call to arms, the weekly average has risen to a staggering 9,755 pledges. To put that in perspective, $1.7 million was raised in the first two years before Double Fine, and $2.8 million has been raised in the six weeks since.
