Crackdown 3

Sumo Digital optimistic about Crackdown 3

"It's been given the time it needs."

It hasn't been an easy journey for Crackdown 3, as it was announced at E3 2014 and was supposed to be released in 2016, which was then changed for 2017, 2018, and now 2019. This might lead some to be a bit cautious about the game, but developer Sumo Digital remain optimistic, as evident from an interview they did with GamesIndustry.biz.

More specifically, it was the studio's managing director Paul Porter who talked about the game, saying that the limited information and silence about the game is "because it's been given the time it needs and warrants to meet the expectations of that franchise".

He also adds that he really didn't like the second game, and promises that it's not the experience we're getting:

"My experience of Crackdown is probably similar to a lot of other people's. I played the first one to death - played it in co-op, collected all the orbs. After a couple of hours of playing Crackdown 2 I wanted to throw my controller at the TV, and I was really quite sad. That's definitely not the route that's been taken with Crackdown 3."

The way they're going to avoid that is by developing the game until it's done and having the time to really polish the game. "By creating a good game. It's a bit of a glib answer, I'm sorry, but as you know the release date's moved back, confirmed as February next year, and that's great news because it gives us the time to polish a game that's pretty much done, but make it better and better," he said.

"The way to make the best games is you finish them, then finish them again, and then finish them again. That's what we're doing with Crackdown 3."

Do you still have faith that Sumo Digital will create an entertaining sandbox adventure with Crackdown 3?
