Steam surpasses 18 million concurrent users

If you're a PC gamer chances are that you use Steam to purchase and play a lot of games, as it's a hugely popular service that attracts millions of gamers every year, and now we know courtesy of a tweet from Steam Database that Steam has reached 18 million concurrent users for the first time, with seven million users currently in-game (as of January 6).

As pointed out by VG247 this peak is a dramatic increase from 14 million back in January last year, marking all of those logged in but not necessarily in-game on the platform.

We're not saying that there's one game responsible for this new impressive figure, but it's worth noting that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been released in early access since these two figures were recorded, so that might have something to do with it, especially since at the end of last month it hit over 3 million concurrent players.
