No Man's Sky gets a massive update
It's time to see what Hello Games has been working on.
After months of silence, except for a tiny hacking incident, Sean Murray and the rest of Hello Games are finally ready to talk about {No Man's Sky} again. Say hello to the first of many major updates coming down the road.
Update 1.1 brings with it the long talked about base building and a bunch of other features and fixes. In fact, it's so massive that they've decided to name it. The Foundation Update separates the game into three different game modes:
• Normal mode: is the original exploration experience we've already played.
• Creative mode: allows us to explore the universe without limits, and build the biggest base we can.
• Survival mode: creates a much more challenging endurance experience.
The new base building will let us build a homestead on a planet of our choosing. Bases are mainly used for shelter and storage, but are also good for other things. You can now hire alien lifeforms to help research new technology, farm and engineer on your base as well. For example: you can now hire a farming specialist to research and grow the ten new plant types included in the update, and discover new resource elements.
Exploration will now also be easier, as we can build essential equipment in the field on-planet. This includes building save points anywhere you want, waypoints that can be placed and colour-coded to allow us to return to our discoveries, and a Signal Scanner that will notify us when mineral deposits, uninhabited bases or suit upgrades are nearby.
Are you the kind of explorer that want to share your experience with other players? Communications Terminals allows us to leave sub-space messages for others to find.
Tired of carrying too much? Hello Games has implemented quite a few improvements for you. Firstly, they've increased the the inventory size, while also letting us stack five products per inventory slot. As if that wasn't enough, we can now buy giant customisable freighters that you can transport resources to while on-planet. Transport your Freighter and its cargo to different, more economically favourable systems to maximise your earnings from trading.
These are just some of the features and improvements included in the new update. There's also graphical updates, UI changes, bug fixes, a photo mode on PlayStation 4 and so much more. You can read the entire list right here. We're told that this is just the first of many major updates to come, so hopefully it'll be enough to at least bring back some of the players that have left the game since launch.
You can see a video detailing parts of the update below. What changes are you most excited for?
