IO Interactive elaborates on Hitman as a platform
We chat with studio head Hannes Seifert who clarifies the reasons for the new direction.
We met up with IO Interactive studio head Hannes Seifert to clarify once and for all exactly how the shift to a digital service works among other things.
When asked about leading the charge on the idea of having a game as a platform or service, rather than a single product, Seifert told us about where the idea came from:
"So I'm really glad seeing this trend, because this idea came after we looked at Absolution, and we looked at our lives as developers," said Seifert. "{Hitman} has been around for 15 years, but we're not the kind of company that ships a game every year, because we want to make something new and original. But on the flipside, it means that the time between products are often very long. Between {Hitman: Blood Money} and {Hitman: Absolution} it took us 6 years. We look at what the players do, and then take a few years to react to that. After Absolution we thought: 'there is got to be a better way of doing that', and that's where the idea of the game being a platform came from."
