Gwent's player progression redesigned

There are some major changes coming to the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game beta that's currently running for PC and Xbox One, and this was announced by CD Projekt Red who posted a long change log for the game. The affected things include "ranked matches, redesigned player progression, and over a few dozens of new cards, including animated premium versions of cards."

There is still no formal release date for the game, but we are assuming it will happen sometime during 2017. Do these changes look like they'll improve the game significantly?
