ReRoll

Ex-Ubisoft dev's ambitious RPG Reroll cancelled

Plans to scan the planet proved too demanding on the studio's modest budget.

An indie studio made up of ex-Ubisoft devs, Pixyul, announced last weekend that their ambitious isometric action RPG, Reroll, will never see the light of day. As explained in a lengthy open letter on Reddit, they were unable to secure enough funding for the game. Because of that they were forced to cut down the features and mechanics, but eventually the money simply dried up:

"This is why we are officially announcing that the development of Reroll is over. We want all of you to know that we gave our best shot and like you, we are extremely disappointed that Reroll will not become a reality. It sucks. All of this sucks. We know many of you will be disappointed and even pissed. We understand that. We should have been better at communicating our progress. Not to give excuses, but we were caught in the process with potential partners that wished we stayed silent on our progress."

On the other hand the cancellation is not a huge surprise. One of the most outrageous features planned was to scan the entire planet using HDcam-equipped drones, and then using the data to build the game's levels.

PixyulX has promised all Kickstarter backers a Steam download code for their other game, Bios, by way of compensation. Unfortunately, according to the studio, full refunds for backers will not be possible.
