EA posts record year

Move to digital is successful.

EA have posted the results for their fiscal year (ending March 31), and it's one for the record books as revenue grew to an all-time high $4.2 billion, but the real story here is that digital sales contributed a whopping $1.2 billion (up 47 per cent). Profits for the year landed on $284 million ($233 million in 2011).

As for the most recent quarter overall revenue was down slightly to $977 million (from $995 million), but once again it was clear that the digital contribution is growing as digital sales reached $425 million (up from $268 million in 2011).

There are several factors that have lead to this very significant shift towards digital products - the release of {Star Wars: The Old Republic} is one, the storming success of FIFA Ultimate Team ("the second best-selling EA product in the UK during this period"), and EA's Play4Free division that currently racks in $2 million per week in revenue.

EA predicts revenue of $500 million for the next quarter with total revenue for the next fiscal year at $4.3 billion, landing slightly below market expectations, which has led to a drop in the stock price.

{Mass Effect 3} helped EA post their best result to date.
