Crytek in transition

"The future is online and free-to-play."

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has been talking again, this time to Video Gamer. In the recent interview he revealed that the {Warface} devs are in the process of "transitioning from packaged goods games into an entirely free-to-play experience," because "the future is online and free-to-play."

"What this entails is that our future, all the new games that we're working on, as well new projects, new platforms and technologies, are designed around free-to-play and online, with the highest quality development."

Yerli used current project {Warface} as an example of how the studio is planning to adapt to the changing market: "As is evident in Warface, our approach is to ensure the best quality, console game quality. That implies budgets of between $10m to $30m - so no compromise there - but at the price-point of $0 entry"

It's unlikely that any of this applies to {Crysis 3}, but with {Warface} already announced as free-to-play, the transition mentioned in the interview appears to already be in full swing.
