Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Criterion talks Most Wanted

Lessons learned in Paradise.

Executive producer Matt Webster from Criterion Games explains how the experience of {Burnout Paradise} has helped the development of Most Wanted and how Autolog evolves with this game.

On what it means having experience with open world racing from {Burnout Paradise}:

"We learned so much in {Burnout Paradise}. The game that we launched was very, very different to the game that it ended up being and we learned a massive amount in that process. And really we've brought everything that we know from doing {Burnout Paradise} and from doing {Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit}. And with this game it's just like a collision with all of that stuff."

On how Autolog has progressed since Hot Pursuit:

"The point about Autolog is it helps you compete automatically with your friends. What we learned in Hot Pursuit was the longer players played the more friends they added, which is really amazing, right, that's a really powerful thing to know. That meant that we were really on to something. But in Hot Pursuit Autolog was only active at one race at a time, now it's on everything. There's so much variety in the game - you can race, you've got chasing, you've got discoverables, I can compete on speed cameras, jumps and cool down spots, jack spots and billboards and security gates.

So we've got a competition around everything. And what's awesome about that is, if you're a really good racing driver and you're on my friends list I might feel like I can't compete, but because there's so much other things to do there are other ways that I could compete to be better than you. I'll give up races maybe, but I'm just going to be really good at doing jumps or I'm going to beat you to the collectibles. And that's going to earn me speed points and that's going to take me above you on the Most Wanted list."
