Charts: US November

Modern Warfare 2, Nintendo DS winners

The U.S. market saw a slight decline in November compared to last year (8%), but it was still the second best November ever. The main reason for the decline in revenue was the hardware side that saw a decrease in value of 13 %, but it should be noted that in terms of units there is not much of a decline overall if any.

On the software side of things {Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2} bested the previous top selling game {Halo 3} (3.3 million in September 2007) with ease. Totalling 6 million on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 it had a behemoth of a month. In its shadow {New Super Mario Bros. Wii} and {Assassin's Creed II} also had great starts. {Assassin's Creed II} was just short of the numbers achieved by its predecessor, but still managed to do very well. {Left 4 Dead 2} also had a very strong first month.

Software:
1. {Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2} / Xbox 360 4.2 million
2. {Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2} / PS3 1.87 million
3. {New Super Mario Bros. Wii} / Wii 1.39 million
4. {Assassin's Creed II} / Xbox 360 794700
5. {Left 4 Dead 2} / Xbox 360 744000
6. {Wii Sports Resort} / Wii 720200
7. {Wii Fit Plus} / Wii 679000
8. {Assassin's Creed II} / PS3 448400
9. {Dragon Age: Origins} / Xbox 360 362100
10. {Mario Kart Wii} / Wii 315000

On the hardware side of things Nintendo DS broke a new record for the month of number with 1.7 million sold (previous November record was set by the DS last year with 1.57 million). Wii saw a slight decline compared to last year but still managed beat its stationary competition by a wide margin. Xbox 360 bounced back above Playstation 3, while the latter saw the greatest year-on-year growth (88%). Microsoft issued a statement saying it was the best November in Xbox 360 history with revenues totalling $838 million on the platform. So everyone had something to be happy about it seems. Well, I'm sure Nintendo are the happiest if anything with a 18 month old title like {Mario Kart Wii} doing 315000.

Hardware:
1. Nintendo DS 1.7 million
2. Wii 1.26 million
3. Xbox 360 819500
