Borderlands 3 dated, timed-exclusive on Epic Games Store

September launch date confirmed, and on PC it'll be on Epic's platform until April 2020, before heading to other digital storefronts.

We were promised more details on Borderlands 3 today after the initial reveal last week at PAX East, and now the details are finally here. We've already reported on the new trailer and editions you can pre-order, but one detail stands out among the rest: the confirmation of the leak that the sequel is heading to the Epic Games Store on PC.

At launch on September 13 it will actually be exclusive on the platform, but this deal is timed and will only last until April 2020, when it will become available on other storefronts. The PC version has been developed with AMD, meaning it can take advantage of meaty hardware like the Radeon graphics cards and Ryzen CPUs.

"The PC gaming community has been an important part of the success of the Borderlands series, and we are excited to be partnering with Epic who recognize its worldwide popularity and share in our commitment to bring Borderlands 3 to this rapidly expanding audience," said 2K President David Ismailer. "Our mission, in addition to delivering the most engaging and captivating entertainment experiences, is to embrace new distribution platforms that will contribute to our effort to grow the audience for Borderlands 3."

It's suitable that 2K is talking about the Epic Games Store, as recently Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford took to Twitter to explain that "2K/Take Two has exclusive publishing rights for Borderlands 3 and makes all decisions regarding price-points, territories, distribution and platform partnerships. Please direct all inquiries regarding any of those topics to 2K."
