Betrayer announced
F.E.A.R. devs reveal distinctive new FPS.
Some of the key developers behind {F.E.A.R.} and {No One Lives Forever} have just revealed a new game that they've been working on in secret for the best part of a year, and it's called {Betrayer}.
The game, which carries a distinctive visual style and is set to become available on Steam Early Access on August 14, is an FPS set around an abandoned British colonial settlement in America. Players will have to piece together events through artifacts, notes and the like, as they battle undead conquistadors.
"The social situation of that time was really interesting," Hubbard said to PC Gamer. "I don't know if you've read about what it was like to be in the Pilgrim colonies, like if you broke the law, but they'd like... pile stones on you until you died. It was just brutal and horrific and that's great subject matter for an atmospheric and eerie game."
"It's been so long since someone's done something this austere, that it just seemed like an opportunity," Hubbard latter added. "We originally had an objective system that would tell you more of what to do, but we were finding that by doing that, people didn't care about the mystery, it just felt more mechanical. So pulling some of that out, more player investment came out of that."
