Ben Affleck steps down from The Batman
The film will instead focus on a young Bruce Wayne, and with Matt Reeves at the helm we can expect it in the summer of 2021.
We've heard rumblings about Ben Affleck hanging up the Batman cowl for a long time now, as there have been reports of the upcoming film - simply titled The Batman - having a few teething issues during development, and now we have confirmation that the Batfleck is no more.
As reported by Deadline, this film is now slated for a 2021 release window, on June 25 more specifically, and Matt Reeves is still writer and director for the project. However, now the film will instead focus on a younger Bruce Wayne, although we don't know who will play him.
Affleck's removal from the project comes after multiple steps back from the film, having his script dropped and also stepping down as director. He has appeared thrice as the Dark Knight though - in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicice Squad, and Justice League - so it's been a good run.
This news is also unsurprising because Affleck is working on I Am Still Alive and Torrance too, and the star himself took to Twitter to effectively confirm this news by saying:
"Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life."
What do you want to see from the project now?
