Overkill's The Walking Dead announced
New co-op shooter from the team behind Payday.
Overkill Software (Payday 2) and Starbreeze Studios have just announced a rather exciting project, Overkill's The Walking Dead, a new co-op shooter set in the zombie-filled world made popular by Telltale's game and the recent television show, and of course the graphic novels that both adaptations are based on.
We can expect new storylines and new characters when the game lands, and that's expected to happen in 2016. So, it's someway off still.
"This is Robert Kirkman from Skybound and I am the creator of The Walking Dead," Kirkman wrote on Steam (given that the announcement has landed here, it's safe to say that PC is a nailed-on certainty, however other platforms have yet to be confirmed).
"I'm a huge fan of what Overkill and Starbreeze have been able to do with Payday 2. It's just an amazing co-operative game and I'm excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game. I'm happy to say that it's the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for."
He continued: "And for all the Payday 2 fans out there, this is for you. Lucille, the choice weapon of "The Walking Dead" antagonist Negan, is a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat that has caused the untimely deaths of many in the long-running comic series."

Kirkman also had this to say in the game's first press release: "From day one on this project it's been clear to me that this is the Walking Dead co-op action game fans have been waiting for. I can't wait for people to learn just what Overkill has been cooking up for this game. Skybound is always about breaking new ground and trying to find something unexpected in all endeavors and this game continues that tradition in grand style."
Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint said: "The collaboration between Starbreeze Studios and our partner Skybound Interactive will deliver something uniquely exciting for our millions of fans. We're two independents joining forces to create the ultimate survival horror game. With Robert on the team, we will bring The Walking Dead into the world of first-person shooter co-op games. It will be gameplay focused, ferocious and bring chaos to the traditional industry model - from us developers straight to you. This time it's big - don't walk alone."
More details can be found on the game's official site, and there's a Q&A on Steam that has additional details if you want them.
